Heartfelt . . .

Good Monday! First, I just wanted to say that I had to delete yesterday's post because of a HUGE nasty anonymous comment that I just couldn't delete. Thank you to everyone who left nice comments. :) I just feel sorry for those people whose life is so bad that they feel the need to force their misery on others. It's very sad.

Now onto the crafting . . .

I mentioned a new book I picked up called Maryjane's Stitching Room:

I'm really enjoying it! The first project in the book is "pin keepers" (aka pin cushions) and there is a lovely picture of these Victorian crocheted hearts:

I fell in love with them from the start. Unfortunately the pattern for these hearts is not in the book. There is a pattern for a similar one but not as sweet as these. I did some Internet searching and found this pattern. I was so excited to try my own. Don't you just love the ribbon accents?

Here is my heart. I tried to add the ribbon but realized that my crocheted covering is not tight enough on the cushion to keep the ribbon in place. That's okay, I like it just how it is. I may add a little ribbon at the top, we'll see. It's a bit large for a pincushion (I used what I had so my thread was a larger gauge) but is still so sweet, don't you think? I think it would make a cute accent pillow if it were a bit larger. I want to starch the lacy edging to it stays out like it is above.

I've already started two more.

The pink is the same but I changed up the top a bit to make a handle of sorts and made the spaces where the ribbon is supposed to go a bit smaller. The small white one is actually this pattern which is just about the same but comes out smaller and will be the perfect size for a pin keeper. The crochet part is easy but I need I do better determining the size to make the hearts so I can work the ribbon part. I hope to have more to share with in the coming weeks.

And speaking of the coming weeks, it's almost Fall! This is the time of year where I need to kick it into gear to be able to get all my hand made gifts and projects done in time for the holidays. Once the heat breaks I'll be able to get started and get back in the craft room.

cheers!
Rebecca

Wow...now I'm curious as to what I've missed?? I've been away from blogland so I missed that post completely.

A bummer that people feel the need to leave nasty comments. I mean 1) it's *your* blog and 2) no one is forcing them to read it! :)

Anyway, I love you and your blog....so nasty comments here. :)

No nasty blog here...I love this book. It's beautiful. I haven't purchased it yet, but it keeps calling me. Perhaps I'll get it on my next visit to Barnes & Noble.
Love your hearts, very nice indeed.

Sorry you had a nasty comment!! Sheesh..... On the other hand I love your hearts. It is so funny because I was at my sisters this weekend and she had two of those hanging from her wall. I said "self you must find some of those they are so great". And here you are making them...

I have to chant now..."I will not learn to crochet, it is beautiful but I have enough hobbies...I will not..."

They are really cool-I have had my eye on that book too!

First, so sorry that you received that anonymous nasty post - I saw it this morning and was going to comment on that post but thought you wouldn't even see my comment with that one being 20 pages long or so!

Second, the crocheted hearts are incredibly sweet and oldfashioned - and you seem to be cranking them out pretty fast. Post pics of the other ones when they are finished.

Third, here's what I wanted to say about yesterday's post - you complained about how you think you can't find alot of good thrifty stuff because you don't have access to yard sales, etc. - I think you always do great! Also, the Masterpiece game cracked me up - we had that when we were young kids but we thought it was pretty "boring" - I don't think 8 year olds really appreciated fine art. Now I can spend all day in an art museum.

Fourth, this morning I mentioned you on my blog - specifically the tutorial on the wizard hats which I made my daughter's 3rd b-day. They turned out really cute and I received lots of compliments on them.

Whew - long comment! but only "goodness" with this comment!

Sorry to hear someone left a nasty comment (pretty long from the sound of it). Really, don't those people have anything better to do? And if they are going to spout off, shouldn't they have the guts to sign their name to it???

Okay, off the soap box....the crocheted hearts are beautiful. They remind me of the sachets my grandmother hung in her closets and tucked into drawers.

I too missed the drama- I just don't understand how someone would think to leave a nasty comment on your blog! It is such a nice place to come to...what mean things are there to say about thrifting and creating beauty? I love the hearts.

You do such nice work with crocheting! The hearts are sweet. I don't know and it's none of my business what the person said, but for the life of me I can't imagine what they would say to you as you are always so nice, encouraging, funny and supportive of everyone that stops by.

For those who feel the need to share their misery with others--get a life!

I love those hearts! Every so often I'll find one at a thrift or yard sale and I'm always drawn to them. I know my mom has a couple that she has picked up along the way. My favorite part is how the ribbon is all woven and pleated around the edges--looks so cool! I know my mom took the ribbon out of one of hers to wash it and now we can't remember how to put it back in! LOL Your hearts are really pretty! I'm always completely impressed by your crocheting skillz! :)
