Land of the Misfit Toys

I'm in a rut. I don't know what it is. I'm not one who flourishes in the summer like some people do. I hate the heat. I hate to sweat. We live in the city where summer is oppressive rather than care free. It's just not my season and I can't seem to focus. My DH is having a hard time, too. He told me he's either having a midlife crises or going through puberty again. Whatever it is, he's driving me nuts. Thank goodness we have a vacation at the end of the month to look forward to. I think we both need a break.

To break out of my rut I'm again (or still) cleaning out the craft room. I feel like I just move stuff from one side to the other but at least I'm doing something about it. During the process I noticed how unfocused I really am with the abundance of half done projects fondly known as UFOs.

So welcome to my Land of the Misfit Toys. You'll notice my dolly still has no face nor does my monkey. The pink dog needs eyes and a tail and that brown lump* will eventually be a rabbit (though the stuffing shows through the stitches a bit too much for my liking) and that's a pink panda there on the right. Seriously, I need to just finish them! I don't see why I'm having such a hard time. I also have two crocheted baby sweaters that only need to have buttons sewn to them. That would take 20 minutes. Like I said, NO FOCUS.

So starting tomorrow I'm kicking it in gear. No more excuses. If I didn't have to go to the office for work I'd be starting today. You'll be seeing a lot more things up in the shop and I'll also be putting together another tiara bag of goodies for a giveaway. I might even try EBay again just to get rid of some things. I really wish I could have a big yard sale but I don't think that flies in Queens. :)

So again, send me some energy, motivation and focus. I need it! I do have some really find thrifty finds from the weekend to share and hopefully, some completed toys, later in the week. Thanks for sticking by me when I'm not feeling so creative. I promise you, Fall will be different.

heartfelt . . . Rebecca

* my husband saw the brown lump and said "what's with the Hershey's Kiss Kid? Where are you going with this?" NICE

Choices can paralyze us Rebecca. I felt so carefree on vacation but arrived home to a heavy weight on my shoulders because of having too many choices of what to do next. Just in my office I have a million things that I could next tackle. In the end I kind of panic and go back to the computer to read blogs. My best advice is going back to pen and paper and starting a list. Also bring out a calendar or make one for the next three months. Add to your calendar goals you want to accomplish such as -finish dollys face. It will help you focus and not feel so blah. I started my list and already I feel so much better having space to write down things that I need to do. Something has to get me out of my after-vacation funk.

I feel you, Rebecca! I'm swimming in a sea of unfinished projects--crafty, house, organizing, cleaning--and it seems so hard to find any direction. I'm sick and tired of the heat and I'm ready for September!

I'm feeling your pain. There's something about hot weather that is so draining to me. It's a summer slump. Last week I was fed up and started writing a detailed list of small tasks so I know where to start. When there are so many, I just wander around in circles and nothing gets done. You'll be back on track soon. And once you finish one little task, you'll feel so accomplished. It's a great snowballing motivator.

I just can't imagine trying to function in that kind of heat! On the other hand, its been nothing but gray and rain here...
Wow, what great advice! First thing I'm going to do when I get home is write a list! I think writing goals on a calendar is a good idea too. Pick something you love the most to finish!
Good Luck!

Rebecca...I'm laughing so hard at your husband's comment. What a riot!

I'm with ya on the focusing thing. My craft room is on the porch..and it's so hot out there, I can't organize it at all. So I get the eye rolls from my DH when I paint at the kitchen table...ahhhhh, air conditioning!!!

Hugz,
Michele

Oh I know this feeling all too well- I may just have it all year!! I do agree with apronthriftgirl that a list helps. I sometimes put something that I have accomplished on the top just so I can cross it off. It seems to be the mind game I need to motivate me to cross off another task!! 'Stella I know you will get your groove back' Hugs~

I think more people than not are going through this right now. I am tackling my UFO's one by one, we'll see how long that lasts. LOL
Everything is waiting until that prefect moment of inspiration hits. I have one project that kept getting delayed but I think I have the perfect finishing touched NOW. That's all it is, no worries.
